State Aid
Since 2012, farmers have been able to benefit from state aid for the premiums of agricultural insurance policies covering weather risks. If the available budget is exhausted, the aid intensity will be reduced proportionately for each applicant.
The maximum agricultural insurance premium subsidy rate increased to 70% since 2021. The amount of the premium subsidy increases year by year, from HUF 7 billion in 2020 to HUF 11 billion in 2021 and HUF 13 billion in 2023.
Premium-subsidized insurance covers only losses in weight (loss of yield), but for certain types of damage, additional insurance can be taken out for quality losses.
